[Tuesday, 20 September 1994, off Sumbawa] We cruise the islands of the Nusa Tenggara region (east from Bali) in a pinisi—the traditional Indonesian cargo boat—that has been converted into a passenger vessel. The Wisata Bahari I was built in 1986 and then refurbished for cruising in 1994.

Nusa Tengarra (“Southeast Islands,” also known as the Lesser Sunda Islands) is the region east of Bali stretching from Lombok to West Timor. [Bali is technically also a Lesser Sunda Island but is its own province. East Timor became an independent state in 2002.)
