The little shrine of Mendut appears in a clearing suddenly, after a row of market stalls. One could well take a picture of the shrine from here and move on, but the entry fee wasn't bad, and the place was relatively crowded (had it been over run with tourists I'd probably not have gone in), so I decided to buy the ticket and go in. Mendut is a ninth-century Buddhist temple, located in Mendut village, Mungkid sub-district, near Y/Jogjakarta in Central Java, Indonesia. The temple is located about three km east from Borobudur. In fact the three shrines of Mendut (this one), Borobudur (we will get there in a bit) and Pawon (not in my itinerary), are located in one straight line. There is a mutual religious relationship between the three temples, although the exact ritual process is unknown. (Y/Jogjakarta, Indonesia, May 2018)
